Fruitful Vine Midwifery Care - The Home Birth Advantage

Welcome to the Home Birth Advantage!

I'm so glad that you are researching Midwifery care and the option of birthing your baby at home! You and your baby deserve the best, most personalized care available. Research has consistently documented that mothers and babies have lower rates of complications and interventions in the hands of trained midwives. Mothers who have received midwifery care during their pregnancies report feeling better informed, safer, and more satisfied with their birth experiences. The American Public Health Association and the World Health Organization have issued repeated statements that childbearing families ought to have access to the health benefits of midwifery and out-of-hospital care. We are blessed in Texas to be able to have and to offer such care!

As I begin my practice, I thank God for all of the experiences He has taken me through to bring me to this time and place. My business name comes from Psalm 128 which my husband read to me when he asked me to marry was full of promises to both of us, but this portion was my promise:

"Thy wife shall be as a fruitful vine in the midst of thine home and thy children like olive plants round about your table."

I believe that midwifery is an expression of that promise.

About Natalie Wommack

I began my journey into midwifery over 25 years ago. I was privileged to witness my first home birth at age 16; all I could think was WOW! In 1978, the only route I knew of to becoming a midwife was to first become a nurse, so off I went. My first child was born five days after graduating from nursing school; my plans for going on for a midwifery degree were slightly delayed. Fortunately for me, those were the days when women were doing everything they could to have a natural, more home-like birth. My practice therefore has always been focused on preparing and helping mothers to birth with as little intervention as possible.

I have been blessed to have the opportunity to practice in a variety of settings: hospital, birth center and home. Though the majority of my experience has been in hospital settings, I learned how to support women in the most difficult of circumstances and how to advocate for mothers and babies. Having experienced the full spectrum of birth, I continue to believe that midwifery care and out-of-hospital birth provide the best outcomes and greatest satisfaction for mothers, fathers, and babies.

I believe that pregnancy and birth are normal life events that proceed best when mothers are supported, informed, and processes are allowed to unfold naturally.

I am a Christian and believe that we as women were fearfully and wonderfully designed to bring forth new life and that most problems that arise in pregnancy and/or birth can be handled by natural means. I work closely with the midwifery community in my region and have good working relationships with two area physicians should medical consult be necessary. I feel that informed choice is foundational to good midwifery care and try to provide you with current resources to help you fully and prayerfully explore the choices you make. Fathers and children are welcome and encouraged to participate as they like.

I offer complete prenatal care, nutritional counseling, labor and birth care, postpartum care, newborn care and breastfeeding assistance. Please feel free to contact me if you would like a free consultation.
